Manzullo Offers Thoughts, Prayers to Victims and Families of NIU Tragedy
Washington,
Feb 15, 2008 -
Congressman Don Manzullo (R-Egan) today issued the following statement following yesterday’s tragic shooting at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb:
STATEMENT
“Today, we grieve with our friends at Northern Illinois University and millions around the world as we try to make sense of this unfathomable tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families but also the tremendous staff at NIU, the first responders, and the 25,000 students who will have to deal with this senseless violence for years to come.
“Once the shock has subsided, the healing will begin. And we are extremely fortunate to have my good friend, Dr. John Peters, at the helm to help our students recover and return to their college life. Dr. Peters, with whom I spoke this morning, employs a highly efficient and caring staff that has already shown its competence and courage in dealing with this horrible tragedy. Beyond the university staff, I am proud of the fast response from our police and emergency responders and the doctors and nurses who are treating the wounded. We continue to pray for the victims and their families and hope for a speedy recovery for the injured students.”
